What is Andersen Fibrex material, and why is it better than vinyl for windows?
Fibrex is Andersen’s patented composite window material made from 40% reclaimed wood fiber and 60% thermoplastic polymer. It is twice as strong as vinyl, does not warp in heat, and insulates roughly 700 times better than aluminum. Unlike pure vinyl, Fibrex holds its shape and seal through St. Louis’s extreme temperature swings. It will not rot, rust, flake, or blister, and the color is fused into the material so it never needs painting, including darker colors like black and bronze that vinyl cannot reliably achieve. It is available in Andersen’s 100 Series, 400 Series Woodwright, and A Series.
What is the difference between Andersen 100 Series, 200 Series, 400 Series, and A Series windows?
The 100 Series is a true full composite window made of Andersen’s patented Fibrex material, twice as strong as vinyl without the very high cost of fiberglass. The 200 Series is Andersen’s entry level wood window, with a vinyl clad exterior and a real wood interior, made in standard sizes only. The 400 Series is Andersen’s bread and butter series and the workhorse of the Andersen line. It uses a combination of Fibrex and vinyl claddings with real wood interiors, and it comes in both standard and custom sizes for new construction or replacement. What is the difference between vinyl windows and composite (Fibrex) windows?
Vinyl windows are made from PVC and are your most affordable window option, while Fibrex composite windows are made from Andersen’s proprietary material and are stronger and more stable. Vinyl windows come in many styles and quality levels, from economical to high end, depending on the brand. Not all vinyl windows are created equal. Better brands make products with stronger frames, more efficient glass, better air, water, and wind resistance, and stronger warranties.
